Skrillex and music production

Updated: Jun 8

Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in UK in the 1990s. Bringing it back to the EDM scene after almost a decade and with a bang, really appreciable right?

Yes, I am writing about Skrillex today, the American music producer, and DJ.

I will be very short today. Right after some information about his life and career, I am sharing what he uses and how he produces hits!

Who is Skrillex?

Sonny John Moore , known professionally as Skrillex, is an American DJ, record producer, musician, singer and songwriter. Growing up in Northeast Los Angeles and in Northern California, he joined the American post-hardcore band From First to Last as the lead singer in 2004, and recorded two studio albums with the band (Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count, 2004, and Heroine, 2006) before leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007.

He began his first tour as a solo artist in late 2007. After recruiting a new band lineup, Moore joined the Alternative Press Tour to support bands such as All Time Low and The Rocket Summer, and appeared on the cover of Alternative Press' annual "100 Bands You Need to Know" issue.

Skrillex has won eight Grammy Awards, more than any other electronic dance music artist. Skrillex has collaborated with Diplo and Boys Noize to form the groups of Jack Ü and Dog Blood respectively. It was announced on Moore's 29th birthday, he reunited with From First to Last and released a single named "Make War". In 2017, Skrillex produced and mixed 8, the eighth studio album by rock band Incubus.

" I went to one of his shows in Puerto Rico while I was on vacation. Skrillex puts on the most amazing show I have ever seen. You have to first be into his music, I like dubstep and when I was in puerto rico and saw he was playing I thought that would be cool to go to. I know when if he played at red rocks tickets would be at least $100 in colorado, so when I saw that tickets were $30 bucks I jumped on it, because it was such a good deal. I went and there were were two headliners before him, someone I can’t remember and Yellow Claw. Yellow Claw put on a pretty good show, but it was nothing compared to Skrillex. The energy his music brings out can’t be compared, and that’s why I love it! He played all of his hits, and had little twists and mixes in the middle of them so they weren’t all just pressing play from his laptop. The laser light show he had to go with the show was on point. He would pause the show and music, and say a few kind words to the crowd, before going back to his banging music. If you’re not familiar with Skrillex his music makes me want to jump around and smash things in full rage mode. I’m going to see him in Denver on December 30th, and I’m so pumped for the show, I know it will be a banger. " - A Post on quora read!

FL Studio is a digital audio workstation developed by the Belgian company Image-Line. FL Studio features a graphical user interface with a pattern-based music sequencer. The program is available in four different editions for Microsoft Windows and macOS.

Skrillex is seen using this DAW in most of his interviews. However, he is said to have used other DAW's like Ableton Live as well.
